MATH:  This week we will begin adding and subtracting three digits.  We will work on this topic for two weeks.  Homework consists of two fraction worksheets… one is a review for their fraction test which will be given this week.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Students will continue writing their report on Jackie Robinson.  We should complete the rough draft on Monday, editing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the final draft on Thursday and Friday.

SCIENCE:  After we finish the report on Jackie Robinson, students will begin researching the earth, sun, moon, and stars.  This will either begin on Friday or next Monday.

READING:  Students will receive a February Reading Calendar.  They should read 500 minutes.  Parents should write the number of minutes their child reads each day, add the amount at the end of each week, and write the total and sign the bottom of the calendar.  The calendar is due the first three days of March.  Students can use the minutes on this calendar towards the minutes needed to earn their free Six Flags ticket.

WRITING:  Their writing practice is to write a friendly letter… write a letter to a friend with the correct heading and closing.  We did this during the 2nd quarter, too.  This will be collected on Friday, 01/28.

Week of January 10, 2011

Most of our time this week will involve taking the DRA and udating the reading level of each student.
MATH = fractions... students made a fraction book and should refer to it as
needed when completing class/home work.  Last
week students identified fractions using pictures.
This week we will locate fractions on a number line and
make comparisons (less/greater than; equal to).
SPELLING = WTW 15... students will take the 2nd part of their spelling test
on Monday (words #13-24).  New spelling words will be
written in their agenda on Monday and the test for the first
section will be Friday and the test over the second section
will be next Monday.  Students will write each
spelling word in their spelling journal 5 times and write
one sentence for each word.  The first section will be due
on Thursday and the second section will be due the
                                   following Monday.
READING = January Reading Calendar... Students will need to read 500
minutes for the month of January.  The December
calendar was collected last Thursday.  The January
calendar should be turned in by the 3rd of February.
Students should be reading at least 20 minutes each
                                    night.
SOC. ST. = This quarter we will be studying Jackie Robinson and Martin
Luther King, Jr.  Students will learn how to use resources in our
library to help with their research project and our discussion on
                    civil rights.
SCI. = In Science we will study the seasons and planets.  We will have an
assignment that will be due near the end of the quarter.  More info
will be provided at a later date.
WRITING =  This week we will write on several journal topics and discuss our
upcoming writing projects (SS and SCI).
