May 16 - 20, 2011

This will be the last update for the 2010 - 11 school year.

Reminder:  Monday is Awards Day
Wednesday is Field Day... wear sunscreen... will your child
bring their lunch or need a sack lunch?

We will continue working on reading, writing, and math this week.

Every other day the students will be given an unknown topic, an hour to do their graphic organizer/rough draft, and their final draft.  This will give them the practice they need to prepare them for what they'll do in the third grade.  The following day we will go over their writing and discuss any problems they had and make suggestions to help them improve their final copy.

We will complete the CRCT Reviews in their textbooks and review the areas they're having difficulty.  This will be a daily activity... when they bring their textbook home on Friday, they should put it someplace where they can review what they learned over the summer.  FYI - practicing multiplication with flash cards will help prepare them for 3rd grade.  They need to learn their multiplication facts so it comes instantly to them and they don't have to count on their fingers...I know, it's a lot of repetition, but it will help them in the long run.

The only homework your child will have this week is unfinished classwork.  It will be stapled in their agenda with a note and will be due the next day.

Of course, we have some fun activities, too.... students will create a translation tessellation and begin working on their end of year class yearbook (their own creation).  If we still have time, we'll also make a rainstick.

Parents, thank you so much for all your help this year.  I really appreciate all you have done.  Students, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to teach you this year. I've enjoyed having you all in my class.

Congratulations to our newest 3rd grade students!
